Pakistan to Face India in Crucial Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 Match
The much-anticipated Pakistan-India clash in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 is set to take place today at the Moqi Training Base in Hulunbuir, China. The match will begin at 12:45pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST).
Pakistan's Performance So Far
Ranked 16th in the world, Pakistan currently holds the second position in the tournament standings. They have won two of their four matches, scoring 11 goals and conceding five. Their other two matches resulted in draws against Malaysia and South Korea. The Green Shirts are determined to continue their strong performance as they take on their biggest rivals.
India's Dominance in the Tournament
India, ranked 5th globally, sits comfortably at the top of the points table with 12 points, having won all four of their matches. The team has been in exceptional form and has a record of four Asian Hockey Champions Trophy titles, one more than Pakistan's three victories in the competition.
Pakistan's Tactical Approach Against India
Pakistan’s High Performance coach, Tahir Zaman, recently joined the national team in China just a day before the tournament started. Speaking to The News, Zaman emphasized the importance of adopting a tactical approach against India instead of going all out for a win:
"We would prefer playing a tactical game rather than making an all-out effort to win against India," said Zaman, adding that he hopes for a rematch in the tournament final.
Zaman also expressed confidence in his team’s performance:
"The boys have shown immense strength and coordination during the last two matches. The team has shown signs of improvement, and hopefully, things will be much better in the semis where Korea could be our opponents."
Pakistan’s Journey to the Semi-Finals
Pakistan’s national team secured its first victory in the tournament with a 2-1 win over Japan, followed by an impressive 5-1 victory against China. These wins have ensured their place in the semi-finals, which are scheduled for September 17.
Final Round Matches Before the Semi-Finals
As the final round of matches takes place today, South Korea will face Malaysia, while China will take on Japan. The results of these matches will determine the other two semi-finalists.
